The Weight - how to move
My most recent group of mixed media sculptures are travelers.
They are on a circuitous and potentially dangerous path that is new, unknown and challenging. Several paths converge and the journey is arduous and long. These desperate creatures have been forced out of their homelands either by the effects of war, economic loss, political persecution, life-threatening disease, discrimination or the degradation of their environments. All have left their homes in a hurry and are carrying their most necessary and beloved possessions or whatever they could salvage.
I am horrified by and feel ineffectual in the face of these tragedies. I understand that similar migrations have existed from time immemorial. The constant onslaught of these indignities makes me question our future(s). However, I chose to include small glimmers of hope and humor in some of the sculptures.
One can’t live without hope.
